I added extra water while it was simmering, eyeball it to keep it from burning! Instead of the dry red wine, I used vermouth. My notes: I used lamb shoulder which worked just fine. This stew is very thick and rich-tasting. Add the wine, cover, and simmer 15 minutes more. Cover and simmer 45 minutes or until all is tender. Where was the Trojan Horse that I had heard about before ever reading the Iliad, so infused as it is in our cultural DNA? Why doesn’t Troy fall at the end of the Iliad? I later (when I read The Odyssey) saw that the ending of the War is contained there. It was odd to me when I first read the Iliad, though that we have a war that lasts 10 years, the Iliad only covers a short period in the ninth year of the war. The Trojan War, standalone, is eternally popular, with even an early Doctor Who episode taking a crack at it, as does Shakespeare. Now in Troy, Stephen Fry caps it off by looking at the Trojan War. It’s a complicated nest of relationships, characters, and events that still puts things like the Marvel Cinematic Universe to shame, and Fry ably brings it all together, if anyone can, in the previous two books. The first two volumes of the Mythos project by Stephen Fry looked at the foundational myths of Greek Myths, from creation all the way through the Olympians, through the elder cycle of heroes and demigods, and then to the succeeding generations of demigods and heroes. In 1903, The Theatre du Grand Guignol in Paris produced a gruesome black comedy adaptation of this famous and noteworthy Edgar Allan Poe story, which the author titled, The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether. As one of Poe’s best-known satirical efforts, the original story is available unedited in audiobook form on a wide range of digital platforms around the world. It is widely applauded as among the first works in American fiction to criticize the poor treatment of the mentally ill in the 1800s. Season One Finale! This story has been adapted into several international motion pictures (including one as recently as 2008), and was the musical subject of the world-famous progressive rock band The Alan Parsons Project. “In a lovely, successful inversion of expectation, the boys and their friends bring protective adult family along on their dangerous adventure.
