There are a number of fantastic books available to teach children body safety skills. Children are visual learners so the story is an excellent medium when broaching this subject with your child. The community’s focus has so often been on ‘stranger danger’ - however, the reality is, the perpetrator will be most likely be someone in the child’s immediate family circle and a person they know and trust. Also, 93% of children will know their perpetrator. The statistics of 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually interfered with before their 18th birthday is truly frightening, and as many experts point out, this statistic only reflects reported cases. The sexual abuse of children has no social boundaries, and providing children with body safety skills empowers them with knowledge of what is good and bad touch. As both a teacher and a mother, I strongly recommend to all parents that ‘body safety’ becomes a normal part of your parenting conversation. We teach our children about water safety and road safety - it is equally important to teach our children ‘body safety’ from a very young age. Still, this is a really important topic and I am delighted that Jay agreed to guest post for me. I usually post lists of books but wasn’t familiar with books on this topic, and honestly, I struggle with the Birds and the Bees Talk. I met author and mom, Jay Dale, on Twitter and she asked me if I was going to cover this issue. The stats on child sexual abuse are alarming. Top 10 Books to Empower Kids About Their Bodies

What I wasn’t expecting was for her to be such a bad-ass, especially when she is juxtaposed against Adale, the Crown Princess that Esofi is to marry after the sudden death of Adale’s brother, Albion. She is book smart and devout to the pantheon of gods of the realm. Esofi is at first characterized as a soft, well mannered princess who has been raised for most of her life knowing she would be the next Queen of Ieflaria because of an arranged marriage. I enjoyed it immensely and really enjoyed that Calvin subverted some expectations that I had when I first began reading. The Queen of Ieflaria is a wonderful fantasy book for all the right reasons. But Adale has no plans of taking the throne, leaving Esofi with more to battle than fire-breathing beasts. At age seventeen, Esofi’s journey to Ieflaria is not for the wedding she always expected but instead to offer condolences on the death of her would-be husband.īut Ieflaria is desperately in need of help from Rhodia for their dragon problem, so Esofi is offered a new betrothal to Prince Albion’s younger sister, the new Crown Princess Adale. Princess Esofi of Rhodia and Crown Prince Albion of Ieflaria have been betrothed since they were children but have never met. Sara: In April 2015 Maggie Wells sent me a query letter for LOVE GAME – a sexy contemporary battle-of-the-sexes romance starring two mature, confident, hot protagonists. This is Maggie and Sara’s story, and we’re sticking to it: Those emails evolved into this thesis we like to call a blog post. Not long after that, we got to talking about how the experience of working with an agent can be different for those of us who are beyond the first blush of publication. Sara did a fabulous interview with another one of her clients, Emmie Mears, about what happens once an author signs with an agent. *lets loose with one of those those piercing whistles that make people cringe* This week, I have a guest star on my blog…literary agent Sara Megibow! |
